Daffodil International University Celebrates Its 13th Convocation

Amid its vast green campus, Daffodil International University (DIU) hosted its 13th convocation at Daffodil Smart City on January 28. A total of 4,020 students — 3,391 undergraduates and 629 postgraduates — received their degrees, celebrating a milestone in their academic journey.

Outstanding achievements were honored with prestigious awards: five students received the Chancellor’s Gold Medal, four the Chairman’s Gold Medal, and three the Vice-Chancellor’s Gold Medal.

The event was presided over by Professor Dr. S. M. A. Fayez, Chairman of the University Grants Commission, representing Bangladesh's President, the university's Chancellor. He conferred the degrees. The convocation address was delivered by Dr. Hossain Zillur Rahman, a renowned economist, former adviser to the caretaker government, and Chairman of BRAC.

In a recorded message, Chief Adviser Professor Dr. Muhammad Yunus emphasized that the convocation signifies the start of a purposeful life chapter. He highlighted global shifts toward a "Three Zero" world—zero net carbon emissions, zero wealth concentration, and zero unemployment. As alumni of an entrepreneurship-focused institution like DIU, graduates are equipped to drive this transformation, using their knowledge for personal success and a more inclusive, sustainable society.

Professor Fayez noted the graduates' entry into a dynamic, innovative era, praising DIU's integration of education with advanced technology to propel national progress. He stressed that conscience outweighs degrees, urging sharper moral discernment and national service.

Dr. Rahman addressed Bangladesh's evolving challenges, shifting from survival needs to quality-driven economic growth to avoid middle-income stagnation. He called for creativity, ethics, and practical knowledge application, commending DIU's research in adaptive agriculture, fintech for financial inclusion, and sustainable urban planning. These initiatives build intellectual capital, fortifying the economy against global uncertainties.

DIU Board of Trustees Chairman Dr. Md. Sabur Khan described the event as a commitment to lifelong responsibilities, transforming graduates into societal contributors. He underscored the university's focus on fostering opportunity creators, with alumni as its core asset.

Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr. M. R. Kabir portrayed the convocation as a bridge to real-world application, bolstered by DIU's training for the Fourth Industrial Revolution via programs like Employability 360 and the smart campus. He encouraged graduates to become global change-makers.

Valedictorian Swapnil Akter Nu shared her pride in DIU's transformative impact, advising peers to dream boldly, act with integrity, and persevere through setbacks, as the future favors self-believers.

Chancellor’s Gold Medalists were Swapnil Akter Nu, Jakia Akter, Sourav Gardia, Ariful Rahman, Muntasir Sarkar. Chairman’s Gold Medals went to Anjir Rahman Khan, Md. Tuhin Islam, Md. Abu Bakar Siddique. Vice-Chancellor’s Gold Medals’ recipients included Shahriar Shahid, Bayezid Chowdhury, Halima Akter.
